If the weather is nice you might enjoy the cool ocean tide splashing at your feet as you look for crabs and creatures washing ashore or you might take a swim in the sea -or even work on your tan. You can rent one large home to share, or rent several cottages near each other. We love participating in it each year as a family because it truly feels like a community-wide event. And youll want to take a stroll around Milner Gardens as well. With all the amenities, its definitely one of the coolest resorts in Washington state for families. Due to the remote location, there arent many restaurants, so planning a nice dinner at the Lake Quinault Lodge or bringing appropriate camping supplies and meals is recommended. You will want to plan another day to browse the boardwalk in Westport, where you will find plenty of quirky and cute shops with gifts, candy, and trinkets. The Point Defiance Zoo here is a must-visit with kids and my family is very excited for the expansion on the Pacific Seas Aquarium that is opening this summer. Watch the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. If you have just one day to visit, youll likely want to head to Paradise, but Sunrise is also a great destination for families. 
Id recommend bringing lunch on board. We love to visit Kalaloch on summer weekends to get away from the crowds other natural areas closer to the city tend to draw. Be sure to go early, especially on a weekend, as parking can be a challenge. Plus, the rooms have a mini fridge and microwave, making it perfect for storing and heating up leftovers. While there are many wonderful places within Washington State which fit this bill, there is one special location uniquely beautiful and sacred ~ Neah Bay, on the Northwestern tip of Washington State, flanking the mighty Pacific Ocean. Vancouver island has a lot to offer, and is a favorite destination for our family. There is a Starbucks in the lobby, but it has a lot of weary eyed parents in the morning, so consider bringing extra coffee for the in-room machine. The Pacific Northwest is such a fun and unique area to visit, with a special charm you really wont find anywhere else. The resort has many different cabin types, such as the canine room for pet owners, double-decker bunks for larger families, and a standalone cabin for special occasions. For a little extra thrill, rent a boat or a jetski from Shoreline Watercraft. While in Port Townsend, spend some time exploring Chetzemoka Park- the park is beautiful with so much for kids to explore! This tiny island town is accessible by car (no ferry required), and is a great access point for the San Juans with kayaking tours, whale watching tours, and more leaving from Anacortes. Last time, we used San Juan Excursions and did a Whale Watching Tour. For weekend getaways in Washington State, the San Juan Islands are truly a PNW treasure. Thanks to Sothea from Mah Family Five for sharing! The Capilano Suspension bridge is SO amazing (especially for Christmas), and the kids will LOVE Science World. Its made up of adorable rental cottages with even more adorable names. You can get there in less than 4 hours from Seattle, and its a must-do if you want to experience everything the Pacific Northwest has to offer. Plus, there are several holiday themed events to see, like the lighting of the tree in the town square, and a local childrens choir singing Christmas carols. Travel to Whistler in the winter is, of course, fantastic with phenomenal skiing and snowboarding, fantastic kids programs (even for the tiniest skiers), snowshoeing, and much much more. Its easily the most beautiful hotel in the area, perhaps even the most beautiful building, and has tons of great amenities (including a kids afternoon tea, an indoor pool and more). Plus, their lobby has lots of Starburst and Salt Water Taffy and lots of board games. Leavenworth is a very easy drive, even for kids as it is only a little over 2 hours from Seattle. Take a stroll downtown; shop, eat everything from German to Mexican, dont forget to stop into Sluys Bakery and get some of their famous bread. In the Fall, we pack clothes for layering and a light jacket for those brisk evenings. Our boys love playing on the beach (bring sweatshirts, its cold! Portland awesome for families because there lots of kid-friendly activities like the Oregon Zoo and OMSI. Kid-friendly hotels in Spokane include: Hotel RL by Red Lion, and The Historic Davenport. The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture also offers family-oriented exhibits, including a historic mansion called the Campbell House, where kids can learn all about what life was like in the early days of the city. 
I dont think you can go wrong anywhere on the Oregon coast, to be honest. While in Victoria, be sure to check out the famous Butchart Gardens, and we also love the Butterfly Museum. We like to stay at Hotel Rio Vista. It has the most amazing riverfront view from the balcony! Seabrook is still growing, but right now theres several restaurants and shops. You wont want to miss the Vancouver Aquarium, right within Stanley Park. We have stayed in a variety of their accommodations and have found them all to be excellent. The area around Spokane and Coeur dAlene is rich with lakes, rivers, and all kinds of water fun. We are so thankful to have lots of great options within (easy) driving distance from our home in northwest Washington. The indoor accommodations are exquisite, and not just the place to sleep! Its right by the Peace Arch border crossing. There are lots of fun shops close to the beach it seems like every town has a saltwater taffy shop across from the sand. Several city-wide events throughout the year draw visitors from all over the United States, and sometimes the world. And if thats not enough, The Summit at Snoqualmie is only 30 minutes away. It's one of our favorite cities (but we're totally biased!). The Tillamook Cheese Factory is worth a stop on the Oregon Coast! 
Youll also want to check out Silverwood Theme Park, with thrilling rides for all ages, plus an amazing water park! Stay at the Majestic Inn for the very walkable downtown location, and beautiful rooms (some even have kitchenettes!). The restaurants also run the gamut of styles, and a genuine German style food and drinks is never far from reach. When it comes to escaping to nature, the Seattle area has tons of choices, but our favorite for a great beach is a weekend in Kalaloch on the Pacific Coast. Heres what we came up with in no particular order: One of our favorite family resorts in Washington state is Semiahmoo Resort & Spa up in Blaine, WA. Parksville Community Park is one of the best playground weve ever seen. That Eastern Washington sun allows for all day adventures outside which includes swimming and relaxing by their amazing pools. Our family likes it because the beaches are sandy and beautiful, we enjoy the seafood too! But dont forget, the resort, and Whistler village has tons to offer in the summer as well. So many great ideas! If your family is active, you can try pickleball, basketball, tennis, go swimming in their indoor/outdoor pool, enjoy lawn games, or head out on the water. Getting out to the San Juan Islands requires a ferry ride which leaves from Anacortes, but for kids, the ferry ride is half the fun! We are huge fans of Destination Hotels, specifically Suncadia as its right in our own backyard in the city of Roslyn, Washington. There were no seat belts, it was the real deal! Whether you plan to stay at the lodge or want to have a camping trip, its a great spot. The race winds through the streets of Spokane and brings in over 50,000 participants each year, kids and grown-ups alike. Weve picked a handful of our favorite Pacific Northwest family vacation destinations and hope you see something that inspires you to get out and explore this area! Perhaps the most well-known attraction in Tacoma is the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium and it DOES NOT disappoint. Read her full post about Tacoma, WA. Its free, and your kids will love becoming Junior Rangers. It is so much more than just a water park. Or get a permit and dig for clams for a fun dinner. 
The beach there is fantastic for boat watching, and looking for shells- this is my kids FAVORITE thing to do so we spend lots of time there. I'm a mom to a preschooler and 1st grader. Beginning June 1st the single vehicle fee to enter the park is 30.00. In the winter, Leavenworth transforms into a winter wonderland of Christmas dreams. We absolutely LOVE staying at the Hyatt House Seattle Center because the rooms have the much needed space families need. We often leave Suncadia with our hearts full, memories created and happy faces eager to do it all over again! And dont forget to stop by Voodoo Donuts for their ridiculously over the top (but SUPER fun and delicious) donuts. One of the highlights is the waterfront park, with a few miles of flat trails that are easy to hike even in snowy weather. Portland is full of green spaces, and extremely walkable (but may be not AS much with little kids) so pick a place near one of the many walking trails. One simple drive through this area and youd be forgiven for thinking you had inadvertently entered a portal and exited into the Swiss Alps in Europe. Great for families because of the clean sandy beaches. Top family-friendly hotels in Poulsbo include: Guesthouse Inn & Suites and Poulsbo Inn. How to Explore the Oregon Zoo in Portland with Preschoolers It has both indoor AND outdoor spaces with construction, clay, waterplay, and veterinarian exhibits (plus many many more). You can get there taking either the Coupeville to Port Townsend ferry if you are coming from the north, or the Edmonds ferry when coming from Seattle. Which ones are your favorites? Youll also enjoy some of Anacortess great kid-friendly restaurants dont miss breakfast at Calico Cupboard! Youll also find opportunities for ziplining, playing miniature golf with goats, and just exploring the beautiful Bavarian-themed town of Leavenworth, plus much much more! Visit Quinault Rainforest nearby in the fall for epic fall colors and easy, beautiful hiking! We believe in traveling as a family as soon as possible and sharing our tips and tricks with other families! Chelan is located basically smack dab in the middle of Washington, on the east side of the Cascades. Plus, youll get some breathtaking photo ops. It could easily consume an entire day to see the many shops in Grayland! 
We love staying at the Icicle Village Resort Condos so close to everything in town and they have enough space to spread out a bit. I cant say enough about this place except to go and check it out yourselves. My 4 year old got to spend a morning riding on a horse at Thunderfoot Riding, LLC in nearby Twisp. We love maximizing our vacation time, which means squeezing in as MANY road trips and weekend trips as we can. It does NOT result in additional charges to you or cost you anything extra.
